Titles like The Batman, which delivers striking, rich contrast and Top Gun: Maverick which offers incredible lifelike detail with beautiful, crisp visuals, regularly serve as testing discs not only for the best TVs but also the best soundbars or speakers, thanks to their uncompressed, engaging and powerful Dolby Atmos soundtracks.
The Mask has become another regular testing disc, thanks to its precise and detailed Atmos effects and gloriously eye-popping colors. Speaking of bold colors and big soundtracks, you can't really beat Deadpool & Wolverine on both fronts.
Finally, two Westerns. The stone-cold classic The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is easily one of the best-looking 4K restorations I've seen, with superbly lifelike visuals, while Tombstone boasts vivid colors and refined detail. Both come with DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtracks that capture every gunfight with precision, accuracy and nuance a level above streaming.
