As if things couldn’t get any worse for Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) on Emmerdale at the moment, he has a farm emergency to deal with in upcoming episodes.
Cain is struggling to keep the farm going while Moira (Natalie J Robb) is in prison, as Jeff Hordley told us.
‘The stresses that come with doing something he’s not used to doing – having to deal with the paperwork Moira has to do for passports for cattle and all that kind of thing, it’s alien to him. It’s a real challenge and adds an extra stress because he’s got to run the garage as well. He’s got to keep money coming in. That’s the overriding goal for him, to keep providing for his family.’
Things are looking bleak for Moira, as so much evidence points to her being seriously involved with the people trafficking and modern slavery operation that was run by Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths). Even worse, she’s currently in the frame for killing Celia and one of her victims, Anya (Alia Al-Shabibi).

Previous Page Next PageAt the same time, Cain has recently had a diagnosis of prostate cancer and while Moira was already in prison he learned that he’s going to need radical treatment with life-changing side effects. Not wanting to put extra pressure on Moira, he’s keeping all this to himself and allowing her to believe that the cancer isn’t very serious.
‘He can see she’s struggling to deal with what’s going on inside there, so he feels that to burden her with the honesty of his diagnosis wouldn’t be the right thing to do,’ Jeff explained. ‘So he decides, for better or for worse, it’s best not to tell Moira.’
Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) is using this crisis point in Cain and Moira’s life to get her to sign away her land to him, after getting Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) to plant evidence about the people trafficking at Moira’s farm.
Cain reacts to all of this pressure in a typically Cain way, when he and Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) steal Joe’s car. Fuming, Joe reacts in a typically Joe way by getting Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) to get revenge on Cain.
Graham sneaks into Cain’s house to get the car keys and spots a letter from the oncology department to Cain. When Cain catches him red-handed, Graham is easily able to overpower Cain, who is exhausted.
Following this, Graham returns to Butlers and reveals that he knows about the cancer. He urges Cain to prioritise his health rather than fighting the Tates, and the two men shake hands.

Kim Tate (Claire King) is suspicious about Graham’s loyalty, and gets Joe to make Graham prove himself by sabotaging Cain’s farm machinery.

Sheep are obviously a valuable asset to the farm, plus we’ve previously seen that Cain has a bit of a soft spot for our woolly friends.
Who can forget the time Isaac (Bobby Dunsmuir) insisted on having a pet lamb? Farmer Moira was quite ruthlessly clear-eyed about the harsh realities of trying to raise a pet lamb, but Cain showed a rare glimpse of his softer side by letting his son adopt the wee creature – who was dubbed Minty.

Sadly Minty didn’t last long, but Cain is determined that the sheep in the barn must be saved at all costs. Frantically, he rounds up as many people as he can get to help him and the struggle is on to save the sheep.
