Premier League leaders Arsenal will travel to League One outfit Mansfield in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Those teams left in the mix for this year’s FA Cup discovered their fate for the next round this evening – and there are plenty of intriguing ties to look forward to up and down the country.

The balls were plucked out ahead of Macclesfield’s match with Brentford, the last remaining fourth-round clash following an action-packed weekend in English football’s most famous competition.

Sixth-tier outsiders Macclesfield produced one of the biggest-ever upsets to eliminate the holders, Crystal Palace, and had hoped to join the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in the last 16.

But Brentford egded out the Silkmen thanks to a Sam Heathcote own goal and Keith Andrew’s men will do battle with West Ham at the London Stadium in the next round.

Manchester City, the bookmakers’ favourites to go all the way this year, have been drawn against Newcastle in an all-Premier League affair after seeing off Salford City last time out.

Arsenal and Chelsea will face off against Mansfield and Wrexham respectively, while eight-time winners Liverpool are set to lock horns with Wolves in the next round.

Elsewhere, Port Vale learned that they will take on Sunderland should they come through their fourth-round encounter with Bristol City, which had to be postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

All eight fifth-round ties are scheduled to take place around the weekend commencing Saturday, March 7.

As of last season, replays have been scrapped from the first round onwards to accommodate the expanded schedule of the Champions League and the Europa League.

This means all ties will go to extra time and – if necessary – penalties should they end in a draw in normal time.

Reacting to Macclesfield’s draw on TNT Sports, club owner Rob Smethurst promised those fans watching on in the clubhouse a free drink should they go on and beat Brentford.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be for the National League North club.

‘It’s got to be drinks all around for these fans if we win… on the house! Unbelievable.

‘The lads are going to be so up for it tonight, what a draw that would be.
